In role-playing games, when a player is creating their character within the game world, one of the most important things to consider is what will a character’s profession or a “class” be? This gives a frame work from which they can develop their character and advance them in skills relevant to their profession. What a player chooses is down to play style and personal preference and to the initial character attributes that would have been rolled up beforehand. (Mages tend to have high intelligence, thieves a good dexterity for example). Would you want to be a strong and skilled warrior? A nimble thief or rogue, taking jobs that required a subtler skill set or perhaps a weaver of magic? Using the elements around you and studying old scrolls to master powerful spells. There are many different types of profession and they vary between different role-playing games. Here we will look at them in more detail.
