In role-playing games, when a player is creating their character within the game world, one of the most important things to consider is what will a character’s profession or a “class” be? This gives a frame work from which they can develop their character and advance them in skills relevant to their profession.
What a player chooses is down to play style and personal preference. Also the initial character attributes that would have been rolled up beforehand help define this. For example, Mages tend to have high intelligence, thieves a good dexterity. Which profession would you choose? Would you want to be a strong and skilled warrior? A nimble thief or rogue, taking jobs that required a subtler skill set? Or perhaps a weaver of magic, using the elements around you and studying old scrolls to master powerful spells. There are many different types of profession and they vary between different role-playing games. Here we will look at them in more detail.
